Backing Up Your Images and Why It's Important! | Misty Jones Photography

DIGITAL IMAGES

As we enter the "digital era" more and more people are requesting to purchase the digital files. Why? Maybe because you want to share them on social media? Maybe because you want the freedom to print them however you like? Why do you prefer the digital files, feel free to comment below.

I GET IT! I WANT THE DIGITALS TOO!

I can remember when I got married almost 20 years ago. I asked the photographer if we would get the digitals. He looked at me like I was crazy! I didn't end up getting the digitals but I got the "proofs", which meant a small print of every image. When I say small I mean small! I am fairly certain I cannot use those to make larger prints.

PRINT YOUR IMAGES

So why is it important to print your images and make up back up copies? Because "digital" is not always reliable! I can remember one of the first work shops I attended. The photographer that hosted the workshop shared with us about the son she lost when he was just a couple months old. The ONLY photos she had of her son were on her computer, and someone broke into her home and stole her computer. She was absolutely devastated. Can you imagine? I seen a story the other day from someone that lost her phone and all her kids photos were on it. Some of them backed up to the "cloud" but not all of them. Again, devastated. And just today I heard a story of a bride that didn't download the images from her wedding and by the time she went to print them (over a year later), the photographer no longer had them!

COMPUTERS CRASH AND MEMORY CARDS BECOME CORRUPT

So make sure you have a second copy of all your important photos!

PRINTING IMAGES MAKES YOUR KIDS FEEL IMPORTANT

How many times have you purchased the digital files and then shoved the USB/Disc into a drawer and never printed any images from the session? Did you know that printing your images and hanging them on the wall helps to build confidence in children? It makes them feel like they belong.

QUALITY PRINTS

And lastly, why should you print your images with your photographer? Well, most if not all professional photographers use high quality labs for printing. What's the difference between a high quality lab and Walmart? There are a few differences. The quality of the paper is better and assures that your prints will be around for a very long time. Pro labs also calibrate their computers and printers to ensure that the colors are perfect. Do you think the kid at Walmart checks to see if your image is printed correctly? Does the kid at Walmart even know what a color corrected image should look like? More importantly, here at Misty Jones Photography, we zoom in really close and make sure that you don't have any nose hairs showing!
