4 Tips for Taking Better Newborn Photos with your Smartphone | Misty Jones Photography | Riverview Newborn & Maternity Portraits

Newborns are only small for a little while, which is why we like to get them scheduled while you are still pregnant. But if you are wanting to grab a few snapshots at home then use these tips to get better photos!

1) Light - Lighting is key! Shoot in a room with a lot of light and open all the windows. Bathrooms with a lot of white tile and some window light make great places to shoot. If the weather is nice then take your little one outdoors, the best time is in the morning right after sunrise or in the evening before sunset.

2) Accessorize - You can find a ton of cute accessories on Etsy! There are a lot of hats, headbands, wraps, and cute little onesies that will give your photo that extra sweetness.

3) Details - Don't forget all the tiny parts. Tiny toes, fingers, lips, ears, eyelashes, etc... It is also fun to do some photos that compare mom and dads hands to babies tiny fingers.

4) When to hire a professional? If you want poses, like the one shown below then it is time to call in the experts. This photo is actually a composite (2 photos merged together to create one) where someone's hands are on the baby at all times. This pose can be extremely dangerous to babies airways and wrists if done incorrectly.
