Does the idea of planning your outfit for your portrait session stress you out?

Let me help!

1. DON'T PUT EVERYONE IN THE SAME OUTFIT

Long gone are the days of everyone wearing white shirts and khaki bottoms. Select a favorite piece from your wardrobe and built out from there. You can pull colors from an outfit/shirt that has multiple colors and make a color palette for the rest of your outfits.

2. SHOES MATTER

See if you can find shoes in your existing wardrobe but make sure they are cleaned up so they are looking good!

3. ACCESSORIZE

Accessories are a great way to pull the colors together for the perfect finished look.

4. MAKE YOUR COLORS MATCH THE SEASON

I know we live in Florida and there is technically only one session, HOT! But it is still good to try and plan your outfits around the seasons. For example, save the shorts and strappy tops for the spring/summer and go with darker/warmer colors for the fall/winter. You can check out the color of the year here and also get ideas for color palettes.

5. FILL IN THE GAPS

Once you have pulled as much as you can from your current wardrobe, you can now see what you will need to fill in the gaps. I have found that most of the time when I am planning our outfits that I may just need a shirt or two to complete the look.

6. COMPLETE THE LOOK

You have all your clothes selected, complete the look by making sure everything is ironed! I like to gather each persons outfit and put it together on one hanger and then on the day of the shoot I can just pass them their hanger and shoes and they are ready to go!

7. FINAL DETAILS

Don't forget to schedule those hair and nail appointments a day or two before your session. Make sure there is not any peeling polish on anyone's fingers. Remove hair ties from wrists. Stay out of the sun, if possible, for a couple days prior to avoid any chance of a sunburn. Drink a lot of water the day before your session to give your skin a soft glow. Coconut oil is also great to give skin that polished look. Make sure everyone gets plenty of rest the night before!

Lastly, if you are able to change at the location of your session then I would recommend bringing your clothes and changing into them when you arrive to avoid any wrinkles or stains on the ride over.
